NPC Special Interest Groups

Being part of a special interest group allows parents to explore the particular issues pertaining to their group and to exchange information and ideas to further benefit the education and wellbeing of their children.

Currently, NPC has the following special interest groups:

  • Minority Religion Group - representing parents of children of non-catholic faiths
  • Special Educational Needs Group - representing parents of children with special educational needs in mainstream and special schools
  • Irish medium Schools Group - representing parents of children in Irish medium and Gaeltacht schools
  • Migrant Parent Group - representing non-national parents
  • Traveller Parent Group - representing Traveller parents

The special interest groups are entitled to have 1 representative on the NPC Assembly, which is the body within NPC concerned with developing educational policies. Please note however, the Special Educational Needs Group is entitled to have 2 representatives, 1 being a parent of a child with special needs in mainstream school and 1 a parent of a child in a special school.

The Migrant Parent Group and the Traveller Parent Group are newly established; therefore we are trying to determine the level of interest in these groups and are contacting all the migrant and traveller parents of children in your school to see if they would be interested in becoming involved. We will then hold a meeting in the new school year for these groups.

If you would be interested in becoming involved with any of our special interest groups please complete the questionnaire below and return it to Michelle Davern, National Parents Council Primary, 12 Marlborough Court, Dublin 1 or email it to: mdavern@npc.ie
